Curious about where the best coffee shops & brunch spots in Sheffield are? Look no further.
We’ve got you covered. Don’t worry.
Sheffield has a plethora of options when it comes to trendy coffee shops and delicious brunch spots. We are going to suggest our favourite. Most of these are near the City Center, or on and around Ecclessall Road… (if you haven’t read our post about what there is to do in Sheffield, head over there to read about Ecclesal Rd).
As we venture out, we will add more, but you need not look further than this area to check off all your boxes for weekend brunch plans.
Marmadukes
Marmadukes is at the top of our list of best coffee shops & brunch spots in Sheffield. It was one of the first places we went to so it holds a special place in our hearts for that reason too.
Sitting just up the hill a bit from Endcliffe Park, Marmadukes is a must-stop for brunch. Firstly, the building is an old Sorting Office, how cool is that? There is a lot going on here. It’s a whole cafe culture.
- There is a shop at the front entrance where you can pick up jams, fresh bread, and other tasty treats.
- There are 60+ seats to dine.
- They have their own open-concept sourdough bakery at the back of the cafe! You can watch them making the bread and their tasty pastries! To say it smells delicious in there would be an understatement.
Oh, and they pride themselves on using best-in-class produce and sustainably sourced products, which really just tops everything off. A company that cares about the environment and makes every business decision to better the future of the planet? Sign me up to support them.
Dysh Coffee & Kitchen
First things first; make a reservation at Dysh!
They do not have seating for 60+ like Marmadukes (even though they are very close to each other on Ecclessal Rd). It is a small space, quaint and adorable obviously, but tiny! To avoid disappointment make sure you book a reservation. You can do it online, super easy.
Now that’s out of the way; why is it one of the best coffee shops & brunch spots in Sheffield? Just look at the dishes we had. My friend Leila and I went on a Sunday mid-day and she had the Dysh Breakfast (Moss Valley sausages, sweet cured bacon, poached eggs, mushrooms, black pudding tots, lemon cured tomatoes, toast and butter), and I the Vegan Dysh Bagel (Beetroot Hummus, lemon cured tomatoes and spinach) with Poached Eggs.
The staff are lovely. The tea is from Birdhouse Tea Company (the best). The meals were the perfect portion size and hit all the tastebuds (that beetroot hummus is to die for).
We will definitely be going back to try their Afternoon Tea sometime soon.
They are open Monday to Sunday 9 am-5 pm! Remember, make a reservation!
The Cabin; Pancake, Waffle & Coffee House
I feel like we are a bit biased here, being from Canada and all, as we love a good pancake spot. But, The Cabin has great pancakes, waffles, and maple syrup. Feels like a home away from home!
I don’t know what they put in the batter, but my goodness the pancakes and waffles are some of the fluffiest pancakes and waffles I’ve ever had! (They have GF and vegan options, which you rarely see!).
It’s definitely got the cozy cabin-in-the-woods feel they are going for. You can make a reservation or show up spontaneously for a breakfast treat. They are open 7 days a week 9 am – 4 pm. Their packaging is also eco-friendly and their coffee is ethically sourced (important!).
To top off another of the best brunch spots in Sheffield, there is a gift shop upstairs, The Wildwood Artisan Gift Shop. They sell unique gifts inspired by nature and their love for the woods and mountain cabins and towns. Most items are locally sourced as well. I’ve been here many times, I even took my Mum when she was visiting in the summer. It’s a great little artisan gift shop.
The Grind Cafe
Over in Kelham Island (voted one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world), we have The Grind Cafe. I went on a rainy day in November so, unfortunately, I did not get any photos of the outside, but the inside was warm and welcoming. It really has a great atmosphere and vibe about it.
First of all, the Americano I had… I need to find out what coffee they brew because it was literal perfection. Flavourful, rich, full-bodied, and exactly what I needed.
I had the Egg’s Benedict Croissant with honey Yorkshire ham, poached eggs, candied chestnuts and balsamic (minus the benedict because I cannot have dairy). The candied chestnuts, wow. They were sweet and crunchy but smooth, and mouthwateringly delicious.
They are open Mondays to Fridays 8:00 am – 5:30 pm, Saturdays 8 am – 5 pm, and Sundays 9 am – 5 pm.
Take the day over in Kelham island, and start with The Grind Cafe for brunch! Definitely one of the best brunch spots in Sheffield.
Hopper
I can honestly say that my meal at Hopper is one of the tastiest brunches I have ever had!
Let’s start there.
I had the Eggs California (Poached eggs, smashed avocado & homemade chilli jam, on a toasted English muffin). Everything. Just. Worked. The chilli jam was definitely the star of the show, but it was just perfection in brunch form. The English muffin was toasted but soft and sweet in the middle, the eggs were poached to perfection and the smashed avocado was fresh and tart.
We went out, just us girls, for Brunch on a lovely Sunday afternoon here at Hopper. Another place you need to make a reservation. Seating is limited. They are closed Mondays, open Tuesdays – Thursdays 8 am – 5:30 pm, Fridays & Saturdays 8:30 am – 7 pm and Sundays 9:30 am – 5:00 pm.
This is one of the best brunch spots in Sheffield.
Cornerstone
Last but not least on the list, is Cornerstone @ Dyson Place—another great option for the best brunch in Sheffield.
Located just off of Sharrowvale it’s in a great spot in a cute little courtyard with a couple of other trendy places. It is Italian and South Yorkshire inspired and focuses on using locally sourced food (they also brew their own coffee!). It has only been open for a year but is quickly becoming many peoples favorites.
It’s two floors, so tons of space! But you can, and still should, make reservations. You can even rent it out for private events if you want to. They also quite often hold events you can book in for for holiday’s and special occasions.
When I went, I had The Vegan Cornerstone (Sesame, maple and chilli roasted squash, smashed avocado, chimichurri, spiced tofu, grilled tomato, thyme roasted mushroom and Cornerstone beans on toasted sourdough). Now that was a mouthful, and it was delicious. My brunch partner Leila, had The Vegetarian Cornerstone but she was pretty hungry and I wasn’t able to snap a picture. The difference between the two was poached eggs vs. tofu scramble!
