Obermühle Alpin Spa Resort Review

Looking for the best Spa Resort in Garmisch-Partenkirchen? Look no further, we have found it for you… Obermühle Alpin Spa Resort.

We stayed at the Obermühle Alpin Spa Resort in late November. We travel quite a bit, and as you know this is not our normal choice in accommodations. Not because we wouldn’t love to stay in fancy and posh hotels all the time but because we would rather save on accommodations, stay closer to the city centres, and be able to stop in multiple cities.

Because of the decision to stay in a 4-star resort, we had pretty high expectations.

I can say with 100% certainty that our expectations weren’t just met they were far exceeded. I almost don’t even know where to start. If you’re thinking about staying here, just do it. Book it now.

Here are some of the reasons why Obermühle is the place to go in Garmisch Partenkirchen;

1. The Staff

This is the number one reason why we would return to this resort. Yes, the hotel is wonderful, the spa is relaxing with breathtaking views, and the food is exceptional, but the staff is on another level

We had multiple conversations with staff members who showed genuine interest in our lives and how we ended up at Obermühle. Any questions we had (which were asked often because everything was in German) were met with so much care. They wanted us to know everything and understand.

During our stay we only heard one other guest speaking English, everyone else was speaking German. In these situations, it’s hard not to feel out of place, and the staff did everything to make us feel the opposite; welcome and appreciated.

There are a few staff members we would like to mention that went above and beyond for us.

Rocio (waitress at dinner service), Suzzane (waitress at breakfast service), Karina (bartender), Matthias (waiter at dinner service) and Nassir (bar manager). I’m sure the staff that we didn’t have a chance to interact with were equally as wonderful but the ones mentioned above really did everything to ensure our stay was as enjoyable as it could be.

I would like to also take a second to specifically mention Matthias.

For dinners, they seat you at the same table throughout your stay. You choose the first night, and they keep that spot for you when you reserve your dinner times. The first night I came in I mentioned I had a dairy allergy to him and asked what on the menu I could have. It seems that Germany doesn’t take the same level of caution for allergies and intolerances as say the UK or Italy just yet (he told me they’re working on it). He went through the options that were dairy free for me and it was all very delicious. The second night when we returned, he had taken the menu and crossed off the options that had dairy in them, before I even got there. Now, if that isn’t above and beyond I don’t know what is.

It’s hard having a food allergy, you feel like an outsider and a hassle all wrapped up in one. At that moment I felt like it wasn’t that. He even asked the chef if he could make some of the options on the menu without dairy, just so I could have more options!

Another thing about the staff that should be mentioned is that they all said how much they loved their jobs.

This isn’t the norm! Normally if you’re chatting with someone it eventually comes out that something is wrong with their job, but this was not the case here! Some staff weren’t originally from Garmish-P either. Matthias and Rocio are Argentinian but are travelling around Europe and working. Suzanne’s husband also works there and is from England! I love supporting a business, whatever that business is if they treat their staff well and you can tell at the Obermühle Alpin Spa Resort, they do.

2. The Room

We stayed in room 330 during our stay. It was well located, one floor right above the wellness spa and outdoor pool. The room was clean and well-appointed. It had everything that we needed; a safe, a well-stocked fridge, a coffee maker, a very comfortable bed, and tons of storage space. What sets the rooms apart at Obermühle from others you ask?

  • Auto blinds for the windows, heated flooring throughout, a rainfall shower head, individual house robes and slippers, a large balcony overlooking the spa property and the incredible view of Alpspitze and Zugspitze Mountains.
  • Room service was quick and efficient. They were in and out while we were at breakfast! They also spray (what I think was lavender) on the bed sheets. Wow, it was amazing to crawl into bed and just immediately feel relaxed.

3. The Food (Restaurant Reiser’s)

During our stay, we received both a breakfast and lunch buffet as well as a four-course dinner.  The main dining room is decorated for Christmas and gave off a warm and cozy but exceptionally bougie vibe.  Breakfast has all the options; meats and cheese, fruit salads, cereals, sausages and bacon, boiled eggs, fresh juices, loaves of bread galore, and an omelet station.  Lunch was a spread of authentic German options. We had no idea what any of it was, but everything that we tried was tasty. They had a salad bar, so I was in heaven.

Dinner as I said was a four-course meal. For each course, you get to select from 3 different options. From what we made out there was always one meat option, one veggie option, and a delicious wildcard. We were there for two nights and everything we ate was exceptional.

4. Spa and Wellness

What a luxurious spa. Both inside and literally out.

The spa at Obermühle Spa Resort is well-equipped for all of your relaxation needs. They have a Finnish sauna, a bio-sauna, a salt sauna, an infrared cabin, an ice tunnel, a steam bath, a panoramic indoor pool, a whirlpool, AND an outdoor infinity pool.

Services are reasonably priced for it being a spa resort. We’ve definitely seen higher prices back in Canada without the exceptional views.

5. The Location

Garmisch Partenkirchen is stunning. There are some great paths right behind the resort we found to run on. You can follow it all the way to the bottom of the mountains. There are visitors and locals walking their dogs, hiking, running, biking, and just genuinely enjoying being there and outdoors.

Obermühle offers a shuttle service into the town multiple times a day (if you can pull yourself away from the spa). They also have a ski storage room if skiing is your thing in the later winter months!

Underground parking is 15 Euro’s a day but it is secure and right below the resort.

Additional reasons Obermühle Alpin Spa Resort is the best place to stay in Garmisch-Partenkirchen;

They have a fitness area! It was under construction while we were there, but has since been restored.

If you’re headed there with your family they have just completed a Kids & Family Pool area. There is a pirate ship with a slide, a water ramp with a pump, and a large selection of pool toys and noodles.

You deserve the best vacation! Honestly, you do!
